Course Objective

This course aims to introduce the textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and the criteria that are taken into consideration in determination and selection of these books to the students. It also aims to make students comprehend what are the features that should be found in a good textbook and evaluate them critically from this point of view.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the purpose, approach and structure of social studies curricula
2   To be able to explain the basic concepts related to textbooks, criteria for determination and selection of textbooks
3   List the qualities that should be found in a good textbook
4   To be able to critically examine social studies textbooks in terms of scientific and formal aspects, language-expression and measurement-evaluation approach
5   To be able to evaluate the contents of social studies textbooks in terms of literary works and visuals
