Course Objective

It is aimed to give knowledge, skills and competence to students about information technologies and computational thinking; problem solving concepts and approaches; algorithm and flow charts; computer systems; basic concepts about software and hardware; bases of operating systems, current operating systems; file management; utilities (third party software); word processing programs; calculation / table / graphics programs; presentation programs; desktop publishing; database management systems; Web designing; internet usage in education; communication and business alliance technologies; safely internet usage; information ethics and copyrights; the effects of computer and internet on children / teenagers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain the concepts related to information technologies
2   To be able to explain the theoretical approaches of information technologies
3   To be able to develop content related to the their field by using different programs (utilities, word processing programs, calculation / table / graphics programs, presentation programs, etc.)
4   To be able to discuss the internet usage in education, safe internet usage and the effects of internet on individuals
5   To be able to evaluate the behaviours of information and copyrights

Course Contents

1 Introduction of the basic concepts of the lesson plan and information technologies. Explanation of computational thinking; problem solving concepts and approaches; explanation of algorithm and flow charts
2 Introduction of computer systems; Introduction to basic concepts of software and hardware, Explanation of basics of operating systems, Current operating systems, file management issues
3 To be informed on desktop publishing, database management systems, web design issues
4 Explanation of Internet usage in education, communication and business alliance technologies, safe internet usage. Information ethics and copyrights; explanation of the effects of computer and internet on children / youth
5 Introduction of word processing programs and application with a word processing program (document preparation, writing formatting, setting page options, designing)
6 Introduction of word processing programs and application with a word processing program (document preparation, writing formatting, setting page options, designing)
7 Application in a word processing program (adding document pictures, figures, graphics, tables of contents) and designing an educational brochure on a subject related to their field
8 General Review, Course Evaluation, Midterm Exam
9 Introduction of calculation / table / graphics programs and explanations of data, cells, rows, columns, graphics with one of these programs
10 Application of a calculation / table / graphics program, addition, subtraction, average, condition expressions, maximum, minimum expressions
11 Introducing presentation programs and introducing File, insert, design menus of a presentation program
12 Introducing presentation programs and introducing File, insert, design menus of a presentation program
13 Introducing the use of pictures, figures and graphics in a presentation program
14 Content development for a specific topic in a presentation program. Implementation of animations in a presentation program
