Course Objective

This course serves as an introduction to cultural studies and covers bacis concepts regarding music studies. Special attention is given to the issues regarding popular culture and popular music.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students who succesfully complete this course should be able to:
2   recognize the relationship between a scientific discipline and other disciplines, and, grasp the relationship between cultural studies as interdisciplinary research area and music studies
3   describe the bacis concepts and theories of cultural studies
4   determine the difference of musical analyiss with the approach of cultural studies from other disciplines
5   discuss popular culture and popular music as the practical and discursive fields.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The courses are based on important texts such as books, chapters and articles considering the basic concepts of cultural studies regarding popular culture and music studies. Thus, the student will be able to grasp and discuss the relationship between a concept and a musical fact.
