Course Objective

The aims of this course are to acquaint the students with data collecting and analysis methods which are using in social sciences; and to provide methodological and technical skills on music studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define the terminology and concepts which are use in social sciences,
2   Explain methodological diversities between subdisciplines [historical musicology, systematic musicology and ethnomusicology] of musicology,
3   Determine the proper methods and techniques for study of music,
4   Apply methods and techniques for collecting audio-visual and literary data which are related with a musical problem,
5   Report in writing the results of research projects,
6   Defense the production of scientific knowledge is strategical process and it is dependent to methodology.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Courses:
The courses are theoretical and partly applied. Applied works consist of technical skills which are given with examples by instructor and discussion of reports of students in classroom environment.
Assignments:
Assignments aim to orientate the students to research on specific topics; and to presentation and discussion of results in class environment. Assignments are perform as individually and each student delivers minimum 3 works as assignment.

Assessment Criteria

Exams:
It targerts to measure whether students have achieved the knowledge based competences defined in learning outcomes.

Assignments, fulfilling of the research tasks given by the tutorial and to be able report the topics reviewed and discussed in the course in verbal and written way are essential for success. The student expected to reach as many resources as possible in each task given to her or him and support them with richly contented examples (literary, visual, audio). The clearly understanding of the subject will be evaluated in terms of authenticity of the handling and discussion, as well as the quality of written narrative principles, such as rules of writing.

Attendance in the course:
The score to be obtained from the student s attendance depend on a) attendance status of the course, b) the quality of the students answers to the questions asked by the instructor during the course, c) the quality of the technical, formal and oral narration in the presentation and (d) the contrubition of the student to the creation of the positive learning environment.
