Course Objective

To teach students phonological, morphological and syntactic systems of the Old Russian language, the relationship of the Old Russian language with the Old Slavic languages and its differences from the modern Russian language.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Learn about phonological system and development patterns of the old Russian language (from Indo-European to proto slavic and from proto-slavic to east slavic).
2   2. Learn basic features of the morphological system of the old Russian language.
3   3. Learn the most striking features of the syntactic system of the old Russian language.
4   4. Learn the basics of comparative and historical method in linguistics.
5   5.Learns to do scientific research and assignments on the history of the Russian language.

1 1. Phonetic system of the Old Russian language 11. The history of adjectives in the Old Russian language.
2 2. Vowels in the Old Russian language 12. The history of pronouns in the Old Russian language
3 3. Sound change as a fundamental phonetic process in the history of the Old Russian language. 13. The difference between old and modern Russian numbers.
4 4. I I The history of the sound change of letters. 14. Grammatical categories of the verb and verb forms in the Old Russian language. History of verb forms.
5 5. Results of sound change in modern Russian language.
6 6. Transition from [e] to [o] in the Old Russian language.
7 7. Results of transition from [e] to [o] in modern Russian literary language and its dialects.
8 8. The history of the sound indicated by the letter " ".
9 9. Grammatical categories of the noun in the Old Russian language.
10 10. Changes of nouns in the Old Russian language in historical paradigms.
