Course Objective

The aim of this course is that the students will have knowledge about the effect of religious discourses on violence against women. It will be learned how women are mentioned in the sacred texts of religions. In addition, it will be provided to learn how it differs in the understanding of women in religions. Women's issues and gender issues will not be able to be fully evaluated without considering religious beliefs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1 Comprehends the effect and contribution of religious discourses on violence against women
2   2 Learns about the position and importance of women in religious traditions, especially in Semitic religions.
3   3 Gains the ability to compare women's understandings in religions.
4   4 Discusses how non-religious discourses can be perceived as religious and used against women.
5   5 Establishes relationships between women's issues and anti-women discourse in religious teachings.
