Course Objective

This course aims to transfer theoretical knowledge regarding the development of puppet theater, to show the technical possibilities of different types of puppets, comprehending the basic principles (technique, aesthetic, etc...) to be followed in the process of converting a puppet to a three-dimensional form, making applications for various types of puppets.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   learn the basic rules and requirements of Puppet theater
2   Learn about the theoretical knowledge of puppet theater development
3   Consolidate the technical and theoretical knowledge learned about the puppet theater combined with the applicational knowledge.
4   Self developing and improving the field, by trying different materials and techniques at Puppet applications.
5   Know and use the modern techniques and equipment for the applications in the field of puppet theater.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Teach the Faculty members and students about the basic techniques and forms of puppet theater and let them make applications for these. Listens to student s proposals about how to play and put the applications on the stage. Canalizes them for solving the possible technical problems.

Review Sessions and Class Discussions
From the stage of design till implementation, review sessions will be held within the first hour lesson each week. Works carried over in the classroom and extracurricular activities will compose the basis of the problems to be solved at this process. Students will take part in class discussions, will be asked to submit their views on design.

Applications
At the phase of transition from design to production; and according to the application of puppet technique to be used; material selections and usage practicing will be done by the students. They will be provided to comprehend the parallel realtionship between the design and application, through developing their skills; and they will be informed about the possible solutions for the problems arising at this phase.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

At the Course evaluation phase, the participation of student to the lessons at theoretical courses; and preparation made by student before attending; will be considered. For courses where application projects are done; the rating will be made through preliminary research, creativity in designs, the good handling of the material and technical inventions.

The rating obtained by the student s participation will depent on : (1) the attendance to the course, (2) the student's answers to the questions asked by the instructor during the class and quality of project work in the classroom, (3) the contribution of the student, for generating a positive learning environment.

Attendance Status
To receive a passing grade from the project presentation.
Full and in-time delivery of given assignments.
Active participation to lessons in class

Course Policies and Rules

1. 70% attendence to the lessons are compulsory.
2. All kind of plagiarism attempt or action will result in disciplinary penalty.
3. Not attending the course, will not be considered as a valid excuse for delayed delivery of the assignments and projects.
4. For delayed delivery of the assignments and projects; points will be deducted which is equivalent to ta letter grade per day for each day of delayed delivery.
