General Description

History

Our students who graduated from our Distance Education Non-Thesis Master's program can do planning, reporting, etc. in the public sector. They work as a Unit Manager in their units, IT Department Manager in the private sector, Programmer, Project Specialist / Manager, System Analyst / Designer, IT Specialist, Sales-Marketing Department Specialist / Manager, Human Resources Specialist / Manager in companies that produce information technology solutions.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Management Information Systems (MIS) is a discipline which uses both technical and behavioural science for providing any information that needed to person who works on different levels of a company. Making right decision is a management approach that expected to workers in every company. The main criteria is obtaining various raw data about an issue and putting on understandable, interpretable information. MIS is a discipline which minimizes errors of making decision support with using belonging software and hardware capabilities behind recent IT infrastructures. In our country, personnel who set-up, operate, maintenance-repair and update information systems that meet needed information, is required for managers who works at any levels of a company. Certainly, a system operated by an IT based personnel who have knowledge about administration, decision making and company is a good system. In Turkey, 10 undergraduate degree MIS department is depending on a faculty and 6 associate degree MIS department is depending on a high school. Specialization about MIS of these students is possible with continuing their education at the graduate degree. Both thesis and project based studies are intended to solving IT problems by these students. Bachelors of Management Information Systems, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Maritime, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Architecture and Military Academy can apply Department of MIS Department of MIS which established within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Dokuz Eylul University, have communication infrastructures (fiber-based), technological machinery (servers and client up to date computers) and software (Mac, Windows, Unix and Linux based) at educational laboratories. Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of Management Information Systems Management Information Systems program have 5 faculty members and 2 research assistants. The number of PC (laboratory) is 36 and laboratory is open at 9.00 to 17.00 on weekdays. To provide students studies on the project and the thesis library and the network connection is available. The official language is Turkish.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Transfer the acquired knowledge about information technology, management and organization and operational research to solution on IT problems with using appropriate MIS tools.
2   Analyze MIS data by using information technology techniques.
3   Identify data needs of different disciplines for MIS based problem solving, be able to provide these data, make them compiled and ready to process.
4   Use software for solving MIS problems, define solution strategies, use software at which s(he) is not familiarby understanding its working principle.
5   Recognize her/his knowledge as insufficient to solve MIS problem, determine her/his learning needs, access resources to learn them in English or their native language and evaluate them to use for solving the problem.
6   Design MIS Project and contribute to its implementation.
7   Act as a member of the team to solve a MIS problem, take individual responsibility, contribute to the team and lead it when necessary.
8   Develop culture with the using related national and international MIS standards (TSE,DIN,EN,ISO).
9   Able to inform any level of topic about MIS with writting and oral form, prepare an evidence based report which manifests the problem, suggest a method to its solution, and discuss the method.
10   Design a development project aiming to solve social problems.
11   Act within scientific and ethical principles at planning, data acquisition, information extraction, solution suggestion and publishing stages of MIS problem solving.

Rates of Compulsory and elective course in the program The rate of compulsory elective courses at fall semester program is determined as 100% while it is 75% at the Spring semester. b. The common elective courses taken from same department and percentages (if exists). There is no common elective courses taken from same department. c. Other substances exhibiting the spesitifactions of the program; Ca. Elective course information. Elective courses are given in the three semestre which are Fall and Spring. In the Fall semestre; course titles are defined as Project Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Web Applications and E-Commerce. This semestre students may have information about the decision making and administrative processes of MIS. In the Spring semestre; course titles are defined as Information Systems and Technology. Cb. Pre-conditions There are no pre-conditions. Cc. Internship Opportunities Although there is no compulsory internship program, students can be conducted into the projects according to their demand.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 85 ECTS), Term Project (5 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
