General Description

History

Department of Translational Oncology was established at 2015 as a department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Provide the graduation since 2015. Who are graduated from Faculty of Science (Biotechnology) Faculty of Engineering (Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineered Computer Engineering), Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine can apply the Msc program of Translational Oncology.
Translational perspective of education, research and laboratory services, which is a branch of a department. Our academic personals are from basic (Pathology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics) and clinical (Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pediatric Oncology, Preventive Oncology, Surgery,
Gastroenterology) departments of Medical Faculty and Oncology Institute members. Translational Oncology Msc program has been started education at 2015. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1 year is thesis study). The language of program is Turkish

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Our department accepts course credits that students take previous same program of other university by approval of The Committee of Health Science Institute.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. In total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Translational Oncology Msc program has been started education at 2015. The objectives of this program are to obtain knowledge about Translational Oncology information and knowledge about the basic terminology, presentation skill development, to follow scientific developments and research in the field of knowledge and skills to have. Program contains compulsory course of oncology department and elective courses in different Translational oncology fields. Students may take courses from different programs and universities.

2   Has an understanding of the basic theoretical and updated information on science education
3   Has an understanding of the basic laboratory information used in the field of translational oncology (Principles of basic laboratory instruments and methods, basic molecular biology methods , In vitro laboratory methods, In silico methods, Principles of molecular epidemiological research , application methods and principles of laboratory animal use in research)
4   Has an understanding of the advanced laboratory (pharmaceutical technologies, cancer technologies) information used in the field of translational oncology
5   Analysis: Critically analyze information. Possess the expertise in research systematic with a minimum level of supervision
6   Synthesis: Synthesize the information by taking different directions in the field of translational oncology and adapt to new situations
7   Evaluation: Critical evaluation of research in field of translational oncology
8   Data-base searching and management in field of translational oncology
9   Academic and scientific communication skills (Transfer information in academic and professional environments. Possess written, oral, and electronic communication skills, Write an article in the native/foreign language with a minimum of guidance, Transfer information acquired-contribution to education, basic teaching skills Work effectively within a group, Work in joint projects and take responsibilities)
10   Be able to perform works within the framework of the ethical rules in the field of translational oncology.
11   Skills in basic laboratory techniques (measuring and detection techniques, sample preparation techniques, molecular biology and cell culture techniques, working with laboratory animals, biostatistics and bioinformatics)
12   Expertise in applying advanced techniques (pharmaceutical and cancer technologies etc) in line with interest and thesis topic.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

The program during the first year course equivalent of 60 ECTS credits per semester must take courses. In our program, there are compulsory and elective courses form our department. Students must take at least 120 ECTS credits and 60 ECTS credits of 120 credits from their Translational Oncology Master's thesis. Elective courses are over 25%. There is no compulsory training course. 11 compulsory courses are from our departments in the program. The other courses in this program are elective.

Assessment of students was done with 1 midterm examination, 1 final examination, and homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
