General Description

History

Master of Information Systems with thesis programme commenced its education activities in 2012. This programme provides a common scientific area of study among the disciplines of Business Administration, Computer Engineering and Technology Management. Medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The programme consists of selected mandatory and elective courses that are related with business administration and other social sciences, computer engineering and other engineering disciplines. Therefore, the students that graduate from this programme can work in multi-disciplinary information management activities. The lecturers of this programme likewise come from various disciplinary areas such as business administration, computer sciences, statistics, management information systems. The objective of this programme is to train professionals who can follow national and international developments about business information systems to assess their impact on business; can identify and manage risks that businesses are exposed to; can coordinate the process of the preparation,analysis and interpretation of business reports; can take an active role in teamwork by being aware of the interaction of business functions with each other and contribute to the strategic decision-making process; are equipped with in-depth knowledge and skills of information system related business areas; has a high level awareness of Professional ethical values.


Key Learning Outcomes

1   Having knowledge about information systems technologies, e-commerce and e-business models, decision support systems, decision making techniques, business intelligence and reporting, expert systems, data mining, information law and intellectual property rights, internet technologies and information system applications for business functions in various sectors.
2   Having knowledge about conducting a research and reporting of a scientific research results.
3   Having skill about information technology, analyzing e-commerce and e-business models,using decision making techniques, modeling business intelligence systems,applying information system models to other fields of business and using software and hardware tools and managing related projects.
4   Having skill about individual and team works, communication and presentation.
5   Having skill about conducting research and using tools and techniques about reportingscientific research results.
6   Having competency about utilizing main topics and methods, reporting the applicationsof information system.
7   Having competency about investigating business information problems, generating alternative solutions, taking responsibility, initiative and managerial decision making independently and critically.

Our graduates can work in the operation and information management departments as managers of analysis, design, information and projects.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

During each semester, it is recommended that students take two compulsory, and four elective courses. The students will be offered two pools of elective courses from each pool, the students are required to choose two courses, finaling up to four elective courses.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 55 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS) and field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
