General Description

History

Ceramics departmant has been started to education and teaching at 1987-88 teaching term. Education and teaching program of ceramics departmant has been prepared by taking into account the universities graduate program in ceramics and the secondary education conditions in our country.In the first year of the four year program,besides object lessons like Basic Art Education and Ceramics Design, theoretical nominal art and culture lessons has been taken a part as well. In the second year, Atelier and Technology lessons that started in the first year have been intensified and object lessons like Plaster Forms have been added to the program. From the third year, sustained education and learning program including either theoretical or object lessons, students have been canalized to,
- Artistic Ceramics
- Industrial Ceramics, and education program completes with a final Project.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year, 14weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

This programme is designed for coaching students towards teaching them how to derive information, having research and development consciousness, keeping her/himself up with the artistic, scientific and technological innovations, customising acquired knowledge and skills according to social and sectoral necessities, active and ready to communicate with lifelong learning principles, the comprehention of his/her social environment and their role in contrubition.

1   To have basic knowldege in ceramics and glass design.
2   To have knowledge and competence about utilization and description of ceramic and glass material.
3   To have sufficient technical knowledge and competence to transition from design to production.
4   To have information about research the methods and techniques that are used in ceramic and glass technology.
5   To be capable of understanding and describing vocational terminology and notions.
6   To have required knowledge about computer aided ceramic design.
7   To be capable of shaping and the proper uses of ceramic and glass material.
8   To be technically competent using and applying the required skills in ceramic and glass design
9   To be capable of time management and troubleshooting during the design process and application.
10   To be capable of using ceramic computer aided design (CAD) software.
11   To have background and information for creating original and ingenious designs.
12   To be capable of managing a project.
13   To be capable of using the information and professional skills ,that acquired from education, in area of expertise.
14   To have proffesional discipline, responsibility, ethical approach and proficient skills for the required project.
15   To be capable of adapting abstract and substential notions to creative thinking, progressive and unique artworks.
16   To have strong social relations. To be capable of expressing themselves via visual and scriptum manners of comminication. To be self confident.
17   To be capable of supporting, adjusting and keeping abreast of all the latest national and international developments related to their profession.
18   To be capable of working responsively by oneself, self contained in projects and /or as a team member in production.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession.
The graduate of Ceramics and Glass has been employed in the large companies in ceramics and glass sector.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 50. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

A student is required to have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 50/100 and no failing grades.
A student is required to have minimum 240 credits of ECTS in total.
