Profile of the Programme

Physical Oceanography, surrounding seas and the physical properties of the ocean, the movements, interactions with the climate system on the basis of geophysical fluid dynamics analyzes, and monitoring systems and mathematical models to predict the behavior, pollution, sediment transport, and tries to explain the effects of the ecosystem.
Physical Oceanography Program, students from different disciplines of physical oceanographic information in the program by integrating the theoretical and practical information aims at solving scientific problems. Students are expected to take an active role in scientific studies in the field of Physical Oceanography. Physical oceanography, theoretical work, laboratory experiments, field observations, remote sensing and numerical modeling studies identified by a unique blend. This is, by its very nature, creates big differences between graduates in terms of interests and abilities. The program has a strong background in terms of hardware, provides both theoretical and practical training opportunities.
Subjects of the department; circulation and currents, water mass formation and motion, waves, the interaction between sea and atmosphere, rivers, bays and seas are very close to each other between the change in water potential, sedimen coastal hydrodynamics and transport, marine monitoring and its applications, marine ecosystem dynamics, satellite remote sensing methods climate changes.
Percentage of Courses Taught in English: 30%

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In addition to the compulsory courses of the programme, students register to elective courses appropriate for their thesis topic, on the consent of their supervisor. If necessary, on the consent of their supervisor, they can also register to courses from other programmes (from DEU or other universities). It is obligatory to register MAT5101 Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) or MAT5102 Numerical and Approximate Methods (3 0 0) or MAT5151 Methods of Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) with approval of the supervisor. The registration must be noticed to the Institute during course registration period by the supervisor.
