Course Objective

Reading and examining the written and visual resources related to especially Ottoman Tiling Art.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   be informed of the documentation and its importance,
2   be informed of the importance of the documentation during Ottoman Empire,
3   define the documents in the archives including the tiles belonging to Ottoman Empire
4   be informed of the Ottoman tile forms in Ottoman documents,
5   make an effective presentation of the written and visual information they have gained from the research of the Ottoman Tile Art.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The lesson will be given theoretically on the basis of the resource. After the library research, the acquired documents will be read together with the students and will be deciphered.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Because this course is both theoretical and practical, a mid-term and a final exam will be given on the lesson notes of the theoretical subjects given before and during the lesson. Moreover, an assignment (file) will be prepared related to the research subject.

Assessment Criteria

The exams will be evaluated out of 100 in accordance with the number of the questions. The students will be informed about the value of each question before the exam. The grade will be determined in accordance with the answers. Besides, the student s homework file will be evaluated together with the mid term grade, and the average will be the grade.

Course Policies and Rules

The students coming to class late will be admitted but accepted half-attended. All attendance will be evaluated by the rate mentioned above. At the end of each lesson, the students are informed about the following lesson s subject as a research subject. So, the lessons start with these researches and discussions.
