General Description

History

The Faculty of Divinity Undergraduate Completion (ILITAM) Program accepted students for the first time in the 2011-2012 academic year within the Faculty of Divinity. In the past, it was a program that only associate degree graduates working within the Directorate of Religious Affairs could apply, later it turned into a graduate program that all graduates of Divinity Vocational School or Open Education Faculties of Divinity apply according to the DGS exam result. Graduates of the program are considered to be 4-year Faculty of Divinity graduates.

Each year at the beginning of the fall semester, the first 50 students who enroll in the ILITAM Program with their DGS score and apply with a petition, the first 50 students with the highest DGS placement score are given in addition to their current courses. Students who take the formation courses face the applied "Special Teaching Methods", "Instructional Technologies and Material Design", "Teaching Practice I" and "Teaching Practice II" courses in our faculty with 80% attendance requirement in the 7th and 8th semesters.

Specific Admission Requirements

Being a graduate of the associate degree program of divinity and placement with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM).

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The Theology Undergraduate program aims to bring up theologians who possess the knowledge, skills and competencies required for success in public, private and non-governmental organizations at national and international levels; who have comprehended the fundamental principles of the discipline of theology and have the capabilities to follow and analyze different approaches by putting theory into application; who are able to solve problems and have adopted ethical and social values of responsibility; who can express their knowledge and experience and can interpret the interactions between different disciplines.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Gets the basic knowledge concerning what religion is, the role of religion in human life, how to understand, explain and interpret the religious texts.
2   Recites properly Qur an in accordance with tajwid rules. Memorizes sufficient parts from Qur an in order to perform properly the religious services.
3   Gets satisfying Arabic knowledge in order to properly read, understand and employ in verbal and written expression the Islamic literature which is mostly Arabic oriented, primarily Quran and Hadith.
4   Gives correctly the meaning of the verses which s/he read, understands the verses in accordance with the historical and linguistic context and interprets from contemporary perspective.
5   Comprehends the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, which consists of his sayings, actions and tacitly approval, and hadith literature which is formed in this context; gains the knowledge and skill of putting into practice the sunnah and hadith.
6   Knows the main articles of Islam with rational (aqliyy) and transmitted (naqliyy) proofs. Learns main Islamic theological and philosophical thoughts which are built on the basis of the articles.
7   Knows the pillars of Islamic worship and their practices referring to the Quran. Learns the dealings in Islamic Jurisprudence in the light of the proofs in the main sources. Be able to adapt the pillars and dealings to the present by comparing with contemporary understanding of law.
8   Learns main schools of belief, politics, law, practice, sufism, philosophy, and their emergence motivations, development process, prominent scholars and their views, works and contributions to the Islamic thought during the Islamic history. Thus, gets the conscious of toleration to the other persons or groups in different faith and thinking.
9   Learns main moral principles in Islam on the basis of Quran and Sunnah. Examines moral doctrines and sufi traditions constructed on the principles in the light of the historical developments. Thus, be able to suggest ideal moral personalities for present.
10   Examines History of Religions in general, Islamic History specifically and interprets in accordance with the contemporary world. From this point of view, can properly evaluate contemporary religious thoughts and movements by examining comparatively the religious experience of human beings on the basis of different civilizations.
11   Examines analytically the different philosophical thoughts and movements which were emerged on human s knowledge and approaches. From this point, properly understands and comprehends different perspectives emerged in contemporary world and doctrines which were established around them.
12   Learns main psychological and sociological dynamics that stimulate individuals and societies. Thus, be able to give the people the right religious faith, behaviors and attitudes so can perform effective religious service.
13   Explores the political, literary, cultural, scientific, artistic, aesthetic, etc. aspects of Islamic Civilization which emerged in various geographic lands in Islamic History and contributes their persistence and continuity by stating their reflections to the present.
14   Learns the main visions and approaches of educational institutions in Islamic history and civilization. Suggests ideal religious educational perspectives and understandings by comparing these institutions with modern educational system.
15   Gains the ability to use and to put into practice modern technique and tools for having the main Islamic resources, and following and studying the religious literature.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students who get their bachelor's degree in Faculty of Theology conduct and perform worships, ceremonies such as circumcision and engagement. They work as imams in the mosques affiliated to The Presidency of Religious Affairs and as teachers at elementary and secondary schools affiliated to Ministry of National Education.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

If the midterm exam is online, Final / Make-up exams are face to face:
Visa (10%) + Final / Make-up (90%)

If the exams are face to face:
Visa (40%) + Final / Make-up (60%)

In order to be successful in a course, the final or make-up grade must be at least 50 points, and the midterm / final average must be at least 50 points.

Graduation Requirements

The student must succeed in all the courses in the curriculum and the grade point average must be at least 50 out of 100.
