: Medical Laboratory Techniques

General Description

History

The Medical Laboratory Techniques Program started its educational activities as the 4th program opened in our Health Vocational School in the 1991-1992 academic year.
During the education period in the Medical Laboratory Technician Program, students receive intensive training in basic medical sciences. In addition to the professional courses of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Laboratory Chemistry and Application Tools, Pathology, Medical Biology and Genetics, Molecular Biological Methods, Hematology, Hormone Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Deontology and Professional Ethics, Foreign Language, Turkish Language and Ataturk's Principles and Revolution History (I-II) are given, and practical training is given in the Dokuz Eylül University Hospital Central Laboratory and Blood Center for the majority of the 2nd term. Students are trained as individuals who are committed to medical ethics and deontological rules, respect patient rights, and have the mental and physical structure to fulfill the assigned task at any time and under any conditions. Our students complete their 32-day summer internship at the end of the first year in hospital laboratories.
Our students graduate from the program with the title of `Medical Laboratory Technician after completing all professional practices and internships in the program.
In terms of the educational activities, employment opportunities and planning required by the program; cooperation is made with the Ministry of Health, Health Directorates, public and private health institutions (hospitals, clinics, polyclinics and laboratories, medical centers, health centers, community health centers, family physicians, etc.), municipalities, non-governmental organizations and professional chambers.
Our students who graduate from our program can transfer to some undergraduate programs with a vertical transfer exam. These programs are First Aid and Disaster Management, Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Genetics and Bioengineering, Nursing, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Health Management.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Regarding exams and course success grades, the relevant articles of Dokuz Eylül University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education-Teaching and Examination Regulation and SHMYO Education and Examination Application Principles are applied.
Student evaluation in courses is carried out in the rates specified in the course introduction forms, in accordance with the credit of the course, 2 midterm exams, theoretical, practical or both theoretical and practical, and homework evaluation is carried out according to the characteristics of the course and the preference of the course instructor. 1 final exam is held. A make-up exam is held for students who fail the midterm exam. Homework can also be evaluated if it is specified in the course introduction forms in the final and make-up exams. In order to be successful in the course, a minimum of 60 success grades must be received. The measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course in detail are defined in the `Course Introduction Form prepared by the relevant faculty member/s and included in the information package.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students must successfully complete courses and internships that provide a minimum of 120 ECTS credits. A course passing system is implemented, and students must achieve a grade point average of at least 60 out of 100 in order to pass each course. The minimum grade for single-course exams is 50.
