: Principles of Atatürk and Turkish Revolution History Non-Thesis (Evening)

General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University the Institute of Principles of Ataturk and Turkish Revolution History, affiliated to rectorate of the mentioned university, was founded in 1983 by the date of 03.24.1983 and 2809 numbered law. When the Institute was founded, its old building was at Ikinci Kordon in Alsancak where is today the administration building of the university. A single-storey building added to the administration building was determined as the institute building. The institute firstly undertook the education of the Atatürks Principles and Revolution History lessons for the faculties and high schools of the university. One year later after its foundation, it also started the education of master of sciences and philosophy of doctorate.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of at least 14 courses, not being less than 42 national credits, non-credit semester project, in total 90 ECTS credits.
The completion time of Non-Thesis Master Programmes courses is two semesters. Project study must be completed until the end of third semester.

Profile of the Programme

Main objectives of this master degree program are to enable to students to gain fundamental values of Republic of Türkiye that designed as a civilization project by Ataturk and represents a substantial change in the Turkish modernization process; to enable to students to gain the ability of understanding on and explaining for changes taken place in the social, political, legal, economic and cultural fields during the period of transition from Ottoman Empire to Republic of Modern Türkiye and after the Republic period; to enable to students to gain the ability of evaluating Turkish Foreign Policy and International Relations before and after the World War I and World War II from the perspective of General World History; to enable to students to gain the ability of comparatively analyzing Western and Turkish modernizations and to enable to students to gain the ability of evaluating Ataturks Revolution from the perspective of Eastern and Western civilizations.
By the way of the completion of Non-Thesis Master Programme, students will have gained academic discipline.
Students can benefit from specialization library, Cumhuriyet archive, and thesis archive at extracurricular activities. In the programme there is no foreign language course.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students, who graduate from doctorate programme, can work in diverse universities as an academicians, in Ministry of Education, Turkish Military Forces, Turkish History Association, in other public institutions related sections, in private sections history, education and archive parts.
The related masters degree enables the holder to exercise the profession.

Access to Further Studies

Alumni who complete doctorate programme can carry out their professions in public sector and private sector.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Our education programme consisting of two semesters in a year and totally three semesters is given to students and in each semester a midterm exam and a final exam are done, different homework are given to students, and finally success measurement and evaluation are done in this direction. 40% of midterm exam and 60% of final exam are considered in the assessment and the student must gain 75 points out of 100.

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of at least 14 courses, not being less than 42 national credits, non-credit semester project, in total 90 ECTS credits. Also the student must be successful in the project study which must be done in third semester.
