: Cartoon Film and Animation

General Description

History

The Department of Cartoon and Animation was established in 2009 as the main art field of Animation Film Design and Management under the Department of Film Design. In 2022 it became an independent department with the name of Cartoon and Animation.

The department of Cartoon and Animation aims to train animation artists who have both theoretical and practical knowledge for the film, advertising, game industry in particular and the media sector in general, equipped in the fields of art and cinema culture, and animation specialists for animation film production.

Another aim of the department is to provide the necessary training to the animation artists who produce creative design solutions that make use of existing technological opportunities and can easily adapt to new technological developments. Within the scope of the courses, three-dimensional and two-dimensional computer programs are taught as well as classical art, design, traditional animation education.

Our students who graduated from the Cartoon and Animation program have the opportunity to find employment as Illustrator, Art Director, Cartoon Designer, Academician, Video / Editing Designer, Producer, Special Effects Designer, 2D and 3D Modeling Designer, Game Designer, Animation Character Designer, freelance designers etc. in advertising agencies, game industry, multimedia companies, television channels, post production companies/studios. In addition, they will be able to practice their profession in the academic field.

High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Cartoon Film and Animation aims to maintain an education program which involves educating animators who have both teoretical and practical knowledge - for media industry equipped with art and cinema culture, animator crew competent of animated film production. Another aim of the Major is to educate animators who can produce creative design solucions, who follow recent technological developments on art and can easily adapt themselfs to those developments.

9   Having all the components of being a good Animation audience, who can evaluate animation as science and art at the same time, can produce in both senses, has a strong critical capacity,
10   Adopting lifelong learning,
11   Particularly able to take an active role in group work and work individually if necessary,
12   To train creative directors, cinematographers,
13   screenwriters and intermediate staff candidates who can bring added value to the relevant field (Animation), target the world market, and contribute to the creation of national Animation by learning about Turkey and World Animation.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 50. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

A student is required to have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 50/100 and no failing grades.
A student is required to have minimum 240 credits of ECTS in total.
