General Description
History |
The aim of our department is to foster equipped personnel for the state institutions, museums -including private ones, art galleries, exhibitions of collections, and auction houses for art and historical objects in Türkiye. The number of institutions in question increase every year. They require qualified personnel for management, exhibition, storage, recording, classification, definition, conservation and identification of legal obligations. Besides the archaeological excavations and similar research areas, this field is a specialised field that can be defined shortly as collecting, conserving, classifying, exhibiting and designating the cultural relations. The language of the program is Turkish. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |

Profile of the Programme |
In addition to the possibility of pursuing an academic career, students who graduate from the department of museum studies, will have the ability and knowledge to found museums, establish new museum departments, run educational programs, design and exhibit. Virtual museum applications which have become widespread with the advancement of especially private museums, will provide new areas of work for the graduates and contribute to the museum studies of the country. With the establishment of the museum studies program, the specialised workmen force in the field of museology in Türkiye which until today has tried to be covered only by the graduates of the departments of archaeology and history of art, will be in its required nature. The graduates will make a difference in the planning and realisation of the future museums. |

The related Ph.D. degree enables the holder to exercise the profession. Graduates may specifically apply to academic and scientific associations as a researcher or master in a field; public and private universities as research assistant and lecturer or master in a field; curator in galleries and museums. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education. |
Graduation Requirements |
Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (84 ECTS), a field study (3 ECTS), seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades. |
