Course Objective

Theo-strategy is the method of using the language of religion to build power and realize the political goals of a group, nation or state. In this context, the tendencies such as directing the religious-political perception built towards the goals set within the scope of the course will be analyzed. Depending on the structure of world-system theories, the political-strategic value of the meaning attributed to religion will be shown.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning the knowledge structures of world systems (Classical, Modern, Post-modern) and the political-diplomatic meaning of religion within these structures.
2   Analyzing the impact of religions in leading individuals and societies beyond the dimension of belief and ritual.
3   Recognizing that religions are an important element in the international power struggle beyond the dimension of belief and ritual. Achieving a more inclusive view by recognizing the existence of this phenomenon in the researches conducted
4   Understanding the influence of culture on the interpretation of events when conducting research. And to examine the international context of this influence.
5   Understanding the reasons why a phenomenon differs according to the cultural mind and gaining the ability to analyze the problems of the field more accurately.

2 World-Systems: The Meaning that Classical, Modern, Post-modern Systems attribute to knowledge.
3 The hierarchical classification of sciences and the place of religious knowledge in these systems.
4 The history of the transcription of religions into political-strategic language: Origins.
5 The political context of religious denominations in the classical system: Dispositions.
6 The knowledge structure of the modern age: Changes in the structure of knowledge and criticism of religious knowledge.
7 The international dimension of religions during the Cold War: Theo-strategic models.
8 Midterm Exam

10 The politics of the sacred front.
11 The post-modern state, the rise of religions.
12 Religion and diplomacy in the global power equation.
13 The religious movements that have intensified: Radicalism, Fundementalism.
14 Religious movements in the Turkic republics: Traditional roots.
15 The politicization of Islam: Radical movements in Central Asia.
