Course Objective

To introduce the works and the poets who wrote Mesnevi in Old Turkish Literature between 13th and 15th century, to reveal our cultural richness

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to understand the dictionary and terminological meaning of the word masnavi. To be able to understand the place of the masnavi verse form in Turkish literature and world literature.
2   To be able to gain an idea about the masnavis of leading figures of Classical Turkish literature such as Mevlana, Ahmed Fakih, Yunus Emre, Gülsehri, Asık Pasha, Hoca Mesud, Hamdullah Hamdi, Tacizade Cafer Celebi, Süleyman Celebi, Seyhî.
3   Ability to compare person, place, time and language style characteristics in masnavis. Ability to analyze the flow of events in Ottoman Turkish texts. Being able to see the difference between masnavi and other verse forms.
