Course Objective

The main focus of the course is to provide a comprehensive coverage of the principles of social cognition. This class will examine the social cognitive mechanisms, how they lead to behaviors, social cognitive dysfunctions associated with specific disorders, its relation to other cognitive functions and theories about social cognition. This course will also focus on the brain areas underlying social cognition and neuropsychological tests used in the assessment of social cognitive functions.
The class sessions will be also devoted to a discussion of a set of recent articles related to the social cognition.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to define key terms, concepts and theories in social cognition
2   To be able to have knowledge of social cognitive mechanisms and its relation to other cognitive functions
3   Will be able to explain social cognitive functions and to describe social cognitive dysfunctions associated with specific disorders
4   To be able to define social cognitive functions of the brain and neural basis of social cognitive ability
5   Will be able to define and apply neuropsychological tests used to assess social cognition
6   To be able to present their research ideas effectively and acquire specific skills for research in social cognition
7   To be able to have knowledge of current topics and follow recent researches in social cognition.

Assessment Criteria

In total, one final and two homework (one of it will be presentation) will be conducted. There will be open-ended questions in the levels of information, comprehension, analysis, interpretation and synthesis for all exams.
