Course Objective

To comprehend advanced techniques of harmony and advanced methods of harmonizing soprano (melody).

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Generate homophonic melodies in 4-part
2   List various bass-figures used in different harmony-teaching schools.
3   Define various types of modulation.
4   Explain different chord types according to their principal aspects.
5   Describe non-chord tones.
6   Assess structural designs and tonal degrees of chords that involve multiple non-harmonic tones.
7   Analyse the place and importance of the smallest harmonic unit within the whole design.

3 Harmonizing soprano (melody): Major-minor 7th chords and inversions
4 Harmonizing soprano (melody): non-harmonic tones (passing tone and neighboring tone)
5 Harmonizing soprano (melody): non-harmonic tones (appoggiatura, anticipation, suspension)
6 Harmonizing soprano (melody): secondary dominants
