Course Objective

While examining the birth and developing process of Islamic Arts, the borders of the term of Islamic Arts will be understood; by studying the regional and cultural combination of Islamic Arts and its technical formulations it is aimed that the place of Turkish arts in Islamic Arts will be clarified.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Study and analyse the basic factors that effects on the birth and developing periods of Turkish Islamic Arts.
2   Understands historical and regional counters of the term Islamic Arts.
3   Explain analytically the universal order and regional differences of Islamic Arts.
4   Understands the importance and meaning of Turkish Arts in Islamic Arts
5   Gains the ability to detect and interpret the unique features and continuity of Turkish Islamic Arts that makes tradition.

1 Introduction: Historical and theoretical perspective.
2 The birth of Islamic Arts.
3 The Islamic Arts as a concept : the effects of historical and geographical borders.
4 Common language of Islamic Arts: Calligraphy, Arabesque.
5 Common language of Islamic Arts: geometrical patterns etc.
6 Combination in Islamic Arts: Wahdah in Kasrah Kasrah in Wahdah
7 Combination in Islamic Arts: Kairouan Great Mosque, Córdoba Great Mosque, and Cairo Mosque of Ibn Tulun.
8 Mid-term Exam
9 Combination in Islamic Arts: Anatolian Seljuk s Mosques
10 Combination in Islamic Arts: Ottoman s Mosques
11 Sinan s Architectural theory: Edirne Selimiye Mosques
12 West-East relation in Sinan s Arts
13 Combination in Islamic Arts: Masjid-i Shah in Isfahan and Taj Mahal
14 General Review and conceptual analysis.
