Course Objective

In undergorund mining opening of developments (mains, decline and shaft), production levels, main levels and in production drilling and blasting method is often used. In mining methods which is related to ore body geometry, different drilling patterns and explosives are used. The success of the blasting is possible with the appropriate layout of drill holes, diameter of holes and explosives in accordance with specifications and quantity. The aim of this elective course is to determination of appropriate drilling pattern and explosives in underground metalliferous mining.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Should know the importance of drilling and blasting in underground mining
2   Able to recognize drilling techniques and equipments in underground mines
3   Able to recognize of explosives technology and describe ignition components, parameters of the application
4   Able to identify phases of blasting design
5   Able to understand drilling and blasting design for a specific underground mining method.
6   Able to design drilling and blasting project for a underground mine
