Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students a complete perspective of a hotel's housekeeping operation the various processes and procedures that the department performs to provide efficient service for hotel guests.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the role of the housekeeping department in hotel operations in order to explain the importance of effective communication between housekeeping and other departments of the hotel.
2   Understand the managerial skills necessary to efficiently operate the housekeeping department in order to be able to explain how performance standards are used to plan and organize the housekeeping department.
3   List the safety and security needs of hospitality operations to be able to explain how safety and security issues affect housekeeping personnel.
4   Identify typical cleaning responsibilities of the housekeeping department in order to be able to develop procedures to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of labor and supplies in relation to guestroom cleaning.
5   Explain the factors affecting the establishment of inventories in order to be able to discuss the importance of inventory management and the methods of inventory control.

1. Lecture: There will be three lecture sessions every week.
2. Discussion: In the last 20 minutes of the second session a discussion topic related to lecture will be discussed by students.
