Course Objective

Knowledge of sufism which is a science about inward and moral aspects of religion. To know the foundations of sufism on the Qur'an and Sunnah. Be informed about the mystical traditions and be able to compare with the mystical dimension of Islam. Learning of the institutionalization of sufism and its institutions. To comprehend the view of sufism on knowledge, being and human. To know the man's inner world and the religious concepts concerned with this world. To learn how to develop spiritual and moral standpoints of people. Understanding of religion does not consist of the shape, to have a respectful point of view to the different feelings, thoughts and beliefs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will comprehend the place of sufism in Islam, Qur'an and Sunnah and learn the certain definitions of sufism and know the similarities and differences of sufism with the other mystical movements.
2   They will comprehend the relationship between sufism and other Islamic sciences and its own unique characteristics.
3   They will comprehend the man's inner world and the religious concepts concerned with this.
4   They will make connections with other mystical traditions.
5   They will explain the institutionalization of sufi thought and recognize the major sufi institutions and properties.

6 Certain sects
7 Sufi Tradition in Anatolia, the Ottoman Sultans and Sufism
8 Mid-Term exam
9 Terms of Sufism and Usul-i Ashara
10 Influence ring of Sufism and Islamic activities
11 Sufi education and orders of the soul
12 Theories of Morality and Sufi ethics, Inward Approaches to worships
13 Ibn al-Arabi- Unity of body (Vahdet-i Vücud), Imam Rabbani-Unity of witness (Vahdet-i Suhud)
14 Some Issues of the Sufism
15 Final Exam.
