Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with the sociological imagination towards the relationship between religion and society in contemporary Türkiye. The course covers sociological analysis of Islam along with its impacts on the social and cultural structure, people's worldviews, and their daily-basis life.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understands the nature of the relationship between religion and socio-cultural structure in Türkiye.
2   Learns the sociological explanation of the structure and function of religious groups in Türkiye.
3   Gains extensive knowledge about the causes of the change in religious thoughts in Türkiye.
4   Explains the sociological dimension of the relationship between religion and politics in Türkiye.
5   Reviews ideas on the sociological interpretation of Islam developed by traditionalist and anti-traditionalist movements in Türkiye.
