Course Objective

Explaining the mineral reserves of the Republic of Türkiye and the Middle East, information on the use of mineral resources since the prehistoric period. Mine use in Anatolian civilizations in chronological order.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Anatolia and the Middle East to have information about the mineral reserves.
2   Metallurgical activities to learn about how to do.
3   To have information beginning of mining in Anatolia.
4   Trace mineral production techniques and materials used in production know.
5   Chronological order until the end of the Early Bronze Age civilizations in Anatolia, to recognize the works of mine.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Course contents, significance of the course, course objectives, major reference books and other sources.
2 Giving the basic concepts and terminology about the mining and metallurgy
3 Mineral deposits in the Middle East and our country's borders, with the help of maps Explain reserves
4 Chronological table and the description of the stages of mining and metallurgy
5 Anatolia before mining period.
6 Chalcolithic metallurgical activities in Anatolia.
7 Early Bronze Age in northwestern Anatolia, cemeteries, burial customs. Balikesir and its environment.
8 Midterm exam
9 Review on the basis of the settlement, Malatya-Aslantepe'de metallurgy. Examples of Experimental Archaeology.
10 General features of the Early Bronze Age Anatolia, metallurgical activities.
11 Metallurgical activities in northwestern Anatolia, Troy and its environs..
12 Metallurgical activities in the interior northern Anatolia, Hasanoğlan, Horoztepe, Mahmatlar and its environs.
13 Metallurgical activities in the Black Sea Region and Ikiztepe.
14 Metallurgical activities in the Culture of the Early Transcaucasian
15 Discussion.
16 Final examination.
