Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide understanding of the structure and functions of the gastrointestinal system, digestion and absorption of basic nutrients, and the functioning of metabolism.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the anatomical, histological structures and physiological functions of the organs in the digestive tract
2   Explain the anatomical, histological structures and physiological functions of the liver and bile ducts
3   Enumerate the histological, anatomical structure and functions of the spleen and pancreas
4   Define thermodynamic systems, enthalpy and entropy, heat transfer mechanisms
5   Explain the hormones secreted from the digestive system
6   Tell vitamins and trace elements and energy mechanisms, regulation of body temperature
7   Explain lipid, protein and carbohydrate metabolism
8   Comprehending the ability to attempt iv

OBD consists of theoretical and practical exam. It constitutes 85% theoretical and 15% practical of the evaluation.
