Course Objective

Examination of impacts of all the art movements that emerged until 20th century starting with Mannerism on painting, architecture, sculpture, furniture and decorative arts. It is aimed that teaching the key features of these movements within the frame of cause - effect relationship and teaching method and technique required in simplifying when reviving the play in a way that convenient for historical styles into play text.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Having the theoretical information of era for stage design in the implementations done.
2   Having the required knowledge of art and culture about modern art movements to create substructure of stage design.
3   Having the information about innovative, modern approaches to be used in stage design.
4   Develop himself through observing innovations on art, design, technology and modern issues by comprehending the importance of learning life-long.
5   Adopting the results and the process of scientific research for stage design, transferring and presenting through converting into different visual and ostensive forms.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1.LECTURES
The lecturer introduces the students architectural elements belonging to different cultures and eras that can be used in costume design field of stage design; samples of painting and sculpture, decoration patterns that are different in different eras. Based on the arts of painting and photography, he aims to teach his students and evaluation of visual data in these arts and learning techniques that will enable them to reach the information that illuminates the period they were created. He asks therotecial and visual information belonging to different styles that are used in play decor and costume design to be adopted in a way that addresses today s theatre sensibility and audience and researches to be transferred as assignment presentation in class.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

In the course evaluation processprimarily,couse attendance, preperations before the lessons, handing and presenting the given homework on time, whether or not enough source research is made before the preparation of the homework, whether the scientific conditions is considered in the project or not, will be paid attention and the points will be made on these aspects.


The points obtained from the attendance of the students (1), attendance state (2), the student's answers to the questions asked by the instructor during the class and quality of work assignments (3) for the creation of a positive learning environment will depend on the student's contribution.

70% ofthe course attendance is compulsory.
All typesof plagiarismwill result indisciplinary action.
Not attending the lesson will not be accepted as a valid excuse for late handing homework and projects.
There will be a point decrease for the delayed delivery of the projects eaqual to a letter grade for each day.
