Course Objective

This course aims to help to explain topics such as the use of ergogenic aids to increase athletic performance, classification of ergogenic aids (mechanical-biomechanical, chemical, pharmacological, psychological, nutritional aids), expected benefits, harmful effects, intake quantity; ergogenic aids functioning as doping materials.

Course Contents

1 General guidelines in nutrition and nutrition of the athletes
2 Ergogenic aids; purpose to use them, expected benefits, their classification, mechanical and biomechanical aids
3 Pharmacological aids (amphetamines, anabolic steroids, beta blockers, analgesic injections, diuretics, peptides and analogues, alcohol, corticosteroids
4 Physiological aids (blood doping, erythropoietin, altitude, phosphate salts, sodium bicarbonate salts); psychological aids
5 Nutritional aids (carbohydrates: their functions, classifications, blood glycogen loading, its methods, benefits and harmful effects)
6 Excessive glucose intake before training; water and glucose support during the activity; carbohydrate intake regulation
7 Proteins and fats; their functions, quantity and intake timing
8 Vitamins, daily vitamin and mineral necessity, B6, B12, biotin, folic acid, C and E vitamins, minerals, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, zinc
9 Mid-term exam
10 Water, liquids for the athletes, water necessity, alkali salts, carnitin, (functions, quantity and intake timing)
11 Creatin (functions, quantity and intake timing), caffeine (functions, quantity and intake timing)
12 Protein supplements, whey, casein, egg protein, amino acids
13 Co enzyme Q10, royal jelly, brewer s yeast, spirulina, gelatin, ginseng, chromium picolinat, choline,
14 Ergogenic aids in supporting immune systems and preventing injuries; ergogenic aids for women, vegetarians, the handicapped, and people in various age groups
