General Description

History

Master of Science program in prosthetics and orthotics was established in 29.09.2010 with the legislation number 4806-35863 by The Council of Higher Education under affiliation of Institute of Health Sciences corded with the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. The program comprises 4 semesters of which the first two semesters are for courses and the other two semesters are for thesis study.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. In total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Master of Science program in prosthetics and orthotics was established in 2010. The aim of the program is to raise professionals who can contribute to the field by scientific work and applications with the skill for following scientific development in order to increase the rate of utilization of health and rehabilitation services by the disabled, and to support the rehabilitation team with professionals in the aspects of application and development. The program constitutes obligatory theoretical courses, laboratory and workshop applications as well as selective courses.

1   Describe advanced knowledge in human biomechanics and kinesiology
2   Follows and synthesizes the relevant literature in the fields of biomechanics and kinesiology.
3   Knows, defines and uses the materials and equipment in the field of prosthetics.
4   Knows, defines and uses the materials and equipment in the field of orthotics.
5   Describes classic and advanced prosthetic applications both for upper and upper extremity.
6   Describes classic and advanced orthotic applications both for upper and upper extremity.
7   Plans and applies assessments related to the field based on evidence.
8   Plans and applies rehabilitation methods related to the field based on evidence.
9   Follows literature and data bases in the field of prosthetics and elects appropriate literature.
10   Follows literature and data bases in the field of orthoticss and elects appropriate literature.
11   Plans, conducts scientific research and generate publications.
12   Conducts team-work, plans and conducts relevant processes in conditions relevant to the field.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The students are evaluated by two mid-terms and one final exam and the overall success in project and homework. In order to be successful the student needs to be rated over 75/100 in average for a lecture.

Graduation Requirements

In addition, the dissertation should be presented and defended by the student and rated as successful by the evaluation committee.
