General Description

History

Department of Neuroscience was established at 2004 as a multidisciplinary department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Our academic personel are from basic (Biochemistry, Physiology, Anotomy, Pathology and Pharmacology) and clinical (Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery) departments. Clinic Neuroscience Msc programme started education at 2005. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1
Year is thesis study) . Program language is Turkish.

Master s Degree in Clinical neuroscience MSc.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Clinic Neuroscience Msc programme started education at 2005.The objectives of this programme are obtaining knowledge about clinical neuroscience terminology and theories, improving presentation skills, developing ability to follow, interpret and present domain-specific scientific research, acquiring knowledge and skills on basic research methods in neuroscience. Program contains 1 Compulsory Course each semester and elective courses in different neurosience fields. Students may take courses from different programs and university.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Defining the basic concepts of neurosciences, understanding and expressing the neurophysical functions and neuroanatomic structures of brain, functional organization of central nervous system (CNS) and basic principles of normal functioning of CNS.
2   Understanding and explaining, neural basics, genetic and neurochemical components of cognition and behaviour.
3   Learning genetic and neurochemical components and etiopathogenesis of psychiatric and neurologic disorders. Having knowledge of central nervous system pathology and neurocognitive impairments of psychiatric and neurologic patients.
4   Having knowledge of assessment and evaluation tools that are used in psychiatry and neurology.
5   Having basic theoretical knowledge about measuring methods like neuropsychological tests, electroneuromyography, electrophysical and neuroradiological assessment tools that are used for neuropsychiatric research and investigation. Having the ability to use these methods.
6   Having knowledge about genetics of neuropsychiatric disorders, animal models of these disorders and in-vitro study methods.
7   Having the ability to review and research neuroscience literature, design and write a project of an original study, deciding on research methods of study, collect and analyze the data, evaluate the results and write a paper to be published in journal.
8   Having the ability to express knowledge of neuroscience in Turkish and English, using both verbal and written forms.
9   Having the ability to work in groups and collaborate with other groups of neurosciences and other disciplines.
10   Being conscious about the ethical responsibility while conducting a research study.

Assessment of students was done with 2 midterm examination, 1 final examination, homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
