: First And Emergency Aid

General Description

History

The Ambulance and Emergency Care Technician Program, launched in the 1993-1994 academic year within the School of Health Services (SHMYO) at Dokuz Eylül University (DEU), marked a first in Turkey. This program represented a significant step forward in the field of "first aid and emergency care," a field Turkey desperately needed but for which no significant research had been conducted until then. The program was launched in collaboration with Cambrian College, Canada, with the contributions of the program's founder and then-Director, Prof. Dr. Necla ÇEVİK, who played a significant role in bringing this step forward for our country. It pioneered programs established at other universities across Turkey and commenced training in 1993-1994.

Paramedics have become essential and essential personnel due to new initiatives in ambulance systems and radical changes in the prehospital emergency system. Our program, which meets this critical need in the sector, aims to assume and maintain a leading role in training paramedics equipped with superior knowledge, skills, and equipment. Our program aims to train paramedics who are driven to develop throughout their lives, create a difference, and possess sufficient knowledge and skills in their field, aligning with the expectations and needs of the healthcare sector. Our program aims to equip our students with professional knowledge and skills, as well as effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to recognize and solve problems.

In-hospital practices, 112 practice, and a mandatory first-year summer internship allow our students to gain field experience before entering their professional careers. As a profession of increasing importance and effectiveness, employment opportunities are quite extensive. Recent changes in pre-hospital healthcare services in our country have significantly increased the employment opportunities of program graduates as Health Technicians in 112 Ambulances.

Almost all graduates now work in the public sector, and they can also take advantage of job opportunities in private ambulance companies and private hospital emergency rooms. Regarding the educational activities, employment opportunities, and planning requirements of the program, the following are included: Cooperation is made with the Ministry of Health, Health Directorates, public and private health institutions (hospitals, clinics, medical centers, etc.), private ambulance companies, municipalities, non-governmental organizations and professional chambers.

Program Mission: To train qualified healthcare technicians who can provide on-site, timely, and accurate treatment to patients and injured in pre-hospital emergency healthcare services, provide basic and advanced life support, recognize all types of systemic trauma and implement the appropriate emergency management approach, and ensure that patients and injured individuals who have received initial intervention safely arrive at hospitals by ambulance.
