DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: Computer Science

General Description

History

Department of Computer Science started offering undergraduate program in 2012-2013 academic year and the language of instruction is Turkish and only formal education program is provided. Besides the professional knowledge in Soft Computing, Data Mining, Intelligent Systems, Fuzzy Logic and Optimization, the degree program in the Deparment of Computer Science also provides its graduates knowledge in Statistics, Computer Engineering and Mathematics.

Qualification Awarded

Computer Science, Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc.)

Level of Qualification

First Cycle (Bachelor's) Degree

Specific Admission Requirements

High School Diploma, Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

1. Assessment and evaluation methods; exam types and their contribution to lecture's final grade, are determined by senates of higher education institutions in line with fundamental principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
2. Assignments, projects, application, midterms and final exams are used for assessment and evaluation.
3. Letter grade or score-based systems are applied while evaluating student's achievement.
According to the relative evaluation system, a student's success grade in a course is determined according to the success level of the class by evaluating the success level of the semester studies for that course and the grade he received in the final or make-up exam. This evaluation, which will be referred to as relative evaluation, is made by the instructor teaching the course, taking into account the statistical distribution of grades and the class average. At the end of the relative evaluation, each student is given a grade of success, expressed in letters indicating the degree of success, by the instructor teaching the course. The degrees of success and coefficients expressed by the success grades are shown in the table below.
90-100 4.00 AA
85-89 3.50 BA
80-84 3.00 BB
75-79 2.50 CB
70-74 2.00 CC
65-69 1.50 DC
60-64 1.00 DD
50-59 0.50 FD
49 and below 0.00 FF
A student who receives one of the AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, DC, DD grades from a course is deemed to have succeeded that course.
Moreover; Y (Unsatisfactory), B (Pass), M (Exempt) grades are grades that are not included in the average, and D (Absentee), E (Incomplete) grades are temporary grades;
a) D grade is given to students who do not have the right to take the exam because they do not fulfill their attendance obligations or conditions regarding course practices, and is treated as (FF) grade in the grade point average calculation.
b) Grade B is given to students who are successful in courses that are not included in their grade point average.
c) Y grade is given to students who fail to succeed in courses that are not included in their grade point average.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from this 4 year program, students are required to successfully complete all courses and satisfy a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. The students also need to complete the 32 weekdays practical training program, complete the graduation project and have a cumulative grade point average of a minimum of 2.00 / 4.00.
