Course Objective

This course will introduce the students the basic concepts of computer communication networks, protocol design and implementation. The main targets are to analyze, design and implementation of a computer network and its components

3   Have general information about network security
4   Be capable to combine software and hardware components of a network
5   Have a good understanding of client-server structure

2 Wireless communications, Satellites, Telephone and television systems
3 Classifications, topologies, standards, devices of wireless communication. cable structures
4 Layered structure of Computer Networks.
5 Application Layer
6 Application layer protocols
7 Tasks of the Transport Layer, Service addressing
8 Network Layer tasks, protocols, Packet creation, IP addressing
9 Network layer. Public / Private addresses and Network Address Translation (Nat).
10 Subnetting, IPv6 Addresses, Routing
11 Data Link Layer tasks, protocols. Network topologies
12 Data Link Layer_Ethernet
13 Physical Layer
14 Wide Area Network Technologies

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format. Besides the taught lecture, group presentations are to be prepared by the groups assigned and presented in a discussion session. In some weeks of the course, results of the homework given previously are discussed
