History |
Department of Physiology was established in 1978 with the approval of the Higher Education Council based on branch of Faculty of Medicine. Physiology PhD program started to education in 1995. Duration of the program is a total of 8 semesters including four semesters of courses and four semesters of thesis. The program language is Turkish. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
A successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme. |

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades. |
Profile of the Programme |
The objectives of this programme are to provide the candidates with a focused knowledge of physiology and medical physiology; a general knowledge of cellular physiology, homeostasis and the mechanisms of the functional properties of the organ systems; as well as a detailed knowledge in his or her area of research; to familiarise the students with the research literature of physiology and medical physiology and to support their ability to keep abreast of developments; to train the candidates to demonstrate skills in the recognition of meaningful problems, cases, and questions for research in physiology. Program includes required courses each semester with elective courses in different areas of physiology. Students may choose courses from other divisions. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
The assessment criteria for each course are defined in the Course Description Form included in the information pack prepared by the faculty member/members. The relevant items of the DEU Undergraduate, Graduate Education-Training and Exam Regulations and Instutie Examination Regulations apply in relation to exams and course grades. To be successful in this course must be received at least 75. |
