Course Objective

To describe the structure and function of the endocrine glands and the synthesis of hormones from the these glands, diseases that ocur due to hormonal changes, and their mechanisms of action in the body. To compare hormones in living organisms.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Structure of the hormone, important endocrine glands, chemisty of the hormones, secretion, storage
2 Control by pituitary hormones, secretions and hypothalamus
3 Formation, secretion, functions of thyroid hormones, diseases seen in secretory disorders in the thyroid gland; hypothyroidism hyperthyroidism.
4 Control of adrenocortical secretion, functions and importance of mineralocort ticoids, diseases seen in secretory disorders
5 Functional of glucocorticoids, adronocortical secretion disorders
6 Insulin and its metabolic effects, hormones and factors affecting blood glucose regulation
7 Glucagon and its functions, effective factors in the regulation of glucagon concertration, the importance of insülin and glucagon hormone in the regulation of blood glucagon, diebetes mellitus
8 Regulation of calcium in parothyroid hormone, extracellular fluid and plasma
9 Parathyroid physiology of calcitonin, calcium ion concentration and bone diseases.
10 Spermatogenesis, male sexual activity, testosterone and its function
11 Pre-pregnancy female physiology and female hormones
12 Pregnency and lactation
13 Hormones and functions in other invertebrates
14 Hormones and functions in other vertebrates
