Course Objective

This course aims to teach cell cycle and mechanism of physiological cell death

1   . The graduate learns to the importance of cell cycle
2   The graduate is able to define cell cycle control mechanisms
3   The graduate is able to define cell cycle role in tumor formation
4   The graduate is able to define role of check points and tumor suppressors in cell cycle
5   The graduate learns mechanisms of apoptosis
6   The graduate learns role of apoptosis in cancer
7   The graduate learns extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic pathways
8   The graduate learns experimental design for cell cycle and apoptosis determination
9   The graduate is able to define difference between apoptosis and necrosis

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format. All class members are expected to attend and both the lecture and take part in the discussion sessions. Besides the taught lecture, group presentations are to be prepared by the groups assigned for that week and presented to open a discussion session.
