Course Objective

Analysing the substantive content of international human rights instruments, their impact on domestic law and the various supervisory systems, especially the European Convention on Human Rights.

2   To be able to analyse the content of international conventions on human rights
3   To be able to apply the rules for the protection of human rights to disputes.
4   To be able to apply the principles for the protection of human rights
5   To be able to comprehend the control mechanisms of international human rights treaties

6 Field of Application of the ECHR and Remedies
7 Right to Life under Article 2 ECHR
8 Midterm Exam
9 Prohibition of Torture under Article 3 ECHR
10 Prohibition of Slavery and Forced Labour under Article 4 ECHR
11 The Right to a Fair Trial under Article 6 ECHR
12 The right to liberty and security of person under Article 5 of the ECHR and the principle of legality in crime and punishment under Article 7
13 The Right to Respect for Private and Family Life under Article 8 ECHR
14 Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion under Article 9 ECHR
