Course Objective

The theoretical and practical issues of interdisciplinarity in translation studies, the interaction between different disciplines and their impact on translation will be discussed. Theoretical and methodological questions of interdisciplinarity are examined and problematized. Students present a research project which entails a translation of a text involving at least two disciplines and its assessment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students are expected to be able to interpret and evaluate translation within intertextual and interdisciplinary studies,
2   Students are expected to be able to use the achieved theoretical and applied knowledge at an advanced level,
3   Students are expected to be able to use the information aquired in his/her field either presenting academic papers at national and international conferences or publishing articles in scientific journals,
4   Students are expected to be able to interpret and criticize other studies within the scope of translation studies.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course materials suggested for students come from two different sources. The first group of sources include academic books. Students are expected to skim and scan them before they come to class. The translations are grouped, evaluated and criticised in the light of the recently gained knowledge. Students prepare individual responses and presentations and come to class ready to present them at this stage.
