Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the tools and techniques of risk management and insurance. The course intends to assist the student in identifying, analyzing and managing all types of insurable risk.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Differentiate different types of risk that organizations and individuals encounter in order to demonstrate an understanding of risk related concepts.
2   Explain the risk management process, identifying its meaning and steps
3   Illustrate the fundamental legal principles of insurance and insurance contracts, pointing out the basic characteristics of insurance and the requirements of an insurable risk.
4   Recognize the insurance market dynamics in order to interpret the major trends affecting the insurance industry.
5   Outline the insurance company operations in order to understand the types and functions of insurers
6   Describe the financial operations of insurers in order to understand the financial performance of insurance companies.
