Course Objective

This course takes a critical look at issues of gender in translated texts, source texts and translation process as well as in profession. Readings will include articles addressing gender and feminism in translation studies scholarship and examples of feminist translation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Think critically on gender and translation
2   Identify different approaches to translation within the framework of gender studies
3   Critically analyze and evaluate translations that include different aspects of gender
4   Demonstrate a critical awareness of various issues such as the translation of feminist theories
5   To be familiar with the terminology of gender studies and to use this terminology when translating relevant texts

Assessment Criteria

The students will take one mid-term (30%) and one final exam (40%) in a term. In addition, the students are expected to read the articles given, to complete their assignments in due time and to participate in classroom discussion. Their assignments, participation in the classroom activities and attendance will also be taken into consideration (30%).
