Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide information about what addiction is, types of addiction, risk factors, protective factors and intervention methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the types of addiction and developing critical thinking.
2   Review scientific understanding regarding the etiology of addictions including genetic, psychological ,environmental and social/cultural factors.
3   Present clinical assessment tools commonly used and understand their role in planning treatment and intervention.
4   Consider the influences of psycho-social and cultural effects in relation to addictions.
5   Discuss the ethical considerations related to research and the treatment of addictions.

Exams: There will be held on two in class exams; midterm exam and final exam during the semester.
Grades: 30 % Midterm Exam, 20% Assigment: 50% Final Exam, 50 % Make-up Exam.
