Course Objective

The aim of the course is to teach adaptation period of Turks to Islam and history of Turkish Muslim states (Karahan, Gazne, Memluk, Harezmşah, Altınorda) which began with Idil Bulgars, Tolunoghuls and Ihşits.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   analyze conversion period of Turks to Islam
2   know about the first Turkish Muslim states like Tolunoghuls, Idil Bulgars and Karahans
3   know about Gazne, Harezmşah, Memluk, Altınorda, Timur Turks
4   understand place and role of first Turkish muslim states in Turkish and World history
5   define cultural heritage and art of the first Turkish muslim states

1 Introdution to history of Turkish Muslim States and Sources pre-islamic beliefs of the Turks and sources of the course
2 Relationships between Turks and Arabs the First encounters and relaions between Turks and Muslim Arabs
3 Conversion of Turks to Islam Evaluating the process of the Turks becoming Muslims
4 Tolunoghuls and Ihşits Abbasids and the Turks in Abbasids era.
5 Idil Bulgars Northwest Asia and the Turks.
6 Karahans I the first powerful Muslim Turkish state: Karahans
7 Karahans II the History of Karahans II
8 Midterm
9 Karahan III the History of Karahans III
10 Gaznelis Great Turks State in the southwest Asia
11 Harezmşahs the Turks state in the west Asia
12 Memluks, Atunorda state Turkish states that emerged in the Mongol age
13 Timur State, Babürs Emir Timur and the Timurid empire and Babürs
14 Seljuks the Oghuz Turks and the Seljuks
15 Anatolian Beyliks the first Turkish principalities established in Anatolia
