Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive coverage of the physiological, cognitive and social mechanisms associated with technological based behavioral addictions such as internet gaming addiction, gambling disorder, pornography addiction, and to discuss basic concepts, theories, assessment, prevention and treatment approaches exist in the current literature. In this course, methods of contemporary interventions for behavioral addictions will particularly be examined and the current literature will systematically be reviewed

1   1. To be able to identify basic concepts and theories related to behavioral addictions
2   2. To be able to know about the neurobiological foundations of behavioral addictions
3   3. To be able to know about the relationship between impulsivity, compulsivity and addiction
4   4. To be able to know about psychiatric background of technological based behavioral addictions
5   5. To be able to examine the psycho-social factors associated with technological based behavioral addictions
6   6. To be able to explain the interventions for technological based behavioral addictions

Assessment Criteria

Students are expected to prepare an assignment and a presentation on recent behavioral addiction research. In addition, a midterm and a final exam will be conducted. There will be open-ended questions in the levels of information, comprehension, interpretation and synthesis for all exams.
