Course Objective

In this course, standardized forms, patterns, and symbols related to religious events or figures depicted in works of art based on Old and New Testament stories are taught. This course aims at encouraging students for studying on themes of Old and New Testaments, interpreting their influence on art, and analysis and comprehension of character of scenes from Old and New Testaments depicted in monumental paintings or other minor works

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defining the subject of the work of art
2   Explain the basic features of the works on religious subjects according to time periods.
3   A work of art, able to detect the pre-iconographic description, iconographic analysis and interpretation
4   To be able to analyze the political and artistic situation of the period from the depictions in religious themed works of art
5   To be able to distinguish and interpret the differences and similarities in the depiction of religious scenes made on different materials such as stone, metal, ivory and wood
