Course Objective

Based on the stylistic character of glass, metal, ivory, ceramic and bone artifacts, coins and seals produced between the 4th-15th centuries in Byzantine civilization; It is aimed to gain the ability of iconographic and chronological analysis, to recognize technical information, to use terminology. In this course, objects produced between the 4th and 15th centuries will be discussed in the light of examples in museums.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning the basic concepts and terms related to glass, metal, ivory, ceramic and bone artifacts, coins and seals.
2   Understanding the typological-stylistic-technical-technical-chronological distinction of Byzantine objects produced between the 4th-15th centuries.
3   Evaluation of works of art in terms of material, function, construction and ornamentation technique, stylistic development
4   Gaining the practice of distinguishing, classifying and dating Byzantine period artifacts in museums
