Course Objective

Examination and understanding of objects that look like coins; tessera, postage stamp, weight, but are used for purposes other than coin.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to recognize and dating ancient coins
2   To be able to recognize and dating tesserae
3   To be able to recognize and dating postage stamp
4   To be able to recognize and dating weights
5   To be able to distinguish and dating other small metal objects very similar to coins
6   To be able to learn to use coin-like small objects as a dating criterion

11 Monetary policy of the Roman Empire and 3rd century crisis
12 Countermark in ancient coinage
