Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the ballet terminology of academic classical ballet education. The methods of the movements in the classical ballet technique and the connections between them are examined. Students are taught to read, write and analyze the terminology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of the education given in this course, student can read, write, recognize and interpret the terminology of the classical ballet method.
2   Gains practical knowledge of terminology.
3   To be able to convey the artistic research process and its results as different visual and demonstrative presentations with researches.
4   Gains knowledge of historical and contemporary approaches to ballet education by examining footage, visuals, combination recordings, performing arts archives and documentaries of ballet movements.
5   Learning the choreographic characteristics of different styles and practicing the artistic knowledge in this field.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

During the extent of this course, while the terminolgy lectures are given, students are given the opportunity to watch video / DVD recordings or, according to the approval of the instructor, they are given various research topics and learning objectives on the course s subject. This course introduces the basics principles of classical ballet training. During the course of these lessons students are given a chance to acquire proper etiquette and linguistic jargon in order to intellectually discuss, analyze and comment on subjects regarding advanced terminology.

Assessment Criteria

Students are expected to have the ability to apply analysis and learning methods. Students should be able to explain the ballet movements and exercises in the terminology in written, verbal and bodily expressions. While making the assessment, the level reached by the student is evaluated according to his/her knowledge.

Students are expected to make an effort to understand and learn and to concentrate on the lecture in harmony. Students show that they participate in the lectures with a positive approach to the instructor's questions.
